Micah Savin, Ph.D.
Dr. Micah Savin is a clinical psychologist licensed to practice in New York State. Micah was a National Science Foundation Fellow at Fordham University, where they received a PhD in Clinical Psychology with major areas of study in Health and Neuropsychology. During their time at Fordham University, they developed expertise in the relationship between the brain and behavior in the context of development, aging, and disease with a specialized focus upon sociocultural pathways of risk and resilience. This included providing treatment to optimize brain health, spanning from identity development and learning disorders in adolescence, behavioral change for healthy longevity in midlife adults, to differential diagnosis and treatment of neurodegenerative and psychiatric disorders in older adults. Currently, Dr. Savin is a Postdoctoral Research Scientist at Columbia University where they are funded by the National Institute of Aging to conduct research on psychological interventions to slow biological aging and risk for Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. To do so, Dr. Savin strengthens multidisciplinary collaborations in neuropsychology, bioinformatics, and population health through the equitable creation of biological aging omics clocks. These clocks help us understand how psychological wellbeing embeds within biology to influence molecular processes of aging and disparities in Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. This research also promotes the identification of clinical endpoints and will help establish the treatment efficacy of behavioral and pharmaceutical gerotherapeutics. At Soffer & Associates, Dr. Savin provides assessment and individual therapy to adolescents and adults with a broad range of objectives, from enhancing health and wellbeing, addressing anxiety and depression, or cognitive remediation for learning disorders and Alzheimer’s disease. Although Dr. Savin has the privilege of working with individuals from all walks of life, Dr. Savin specializes in enhancing identity development and physical health through enhanced psychological wellbeing. Micah often works with athletes, artists, individuals impacted by health conditions, and members of the LGBT+ community. My therapeutic approach is genuine, empathetic, and directive with a focus upon individualized third-wave cognitive behavioral therapies. I prioritize fostering agency in my clients through a patient-centered approach that recognizes one’s inherent ability for growth while celebrating unique imperfections and the challenges that coincide. I also employ a range of tools, including structured interviews and interventions, that ensure the most cutting-edge sciences and practices are available to aid in diagnosis and treatment. |
